Given the epidemic of moonbattery, is a right-leaning network TV series even possible? The fate of Fox’s “24″ suggests the answer is no.
It was bad enough that the show’s producers pandered to the Hamas front group CAIR, even agreeing to distribute its propaganda, that hero Jack Bauer’s father is played by barking moonbat James Cromwell, and that last season the audience dropped by a third, presumably due to the lameness of the storyline. Then we were told that next season, the plot will entail combating the phony climate change crisis, and the cast will include shrill leftist Janeane Garofalo. But according to the Wall Street Journal, the situation is even worse than we knew.
In a time when even presidential candidates denounce waterboarding to save American lives as “torture,” Jack’s harsh tactics have fallen into disfavor. As a result, producer Howard Gordon, who calls himself a “left-leaning centrist,” is trying to reinvent the show. Options have included having Jack “atone for his sins” by tending orphans in Africa and making him the villain. It looks like they’ve settled on scrapping the Counter Terrorist Unit and having Jack go to Washington to address accusations that he was too mean to the terrorists. Gordon explains:
At the beginning, when everybody’s fear was more acute, people’s tolerance for violence, their own rage, seemed to make Jack’s tactics more acceptable. But in the wake of our own abuses in prosecuting this so-called War on Terror, we feel Jack is getting a bum rap. So instead of selling out the entire show and its history and its legacy and apologizing for it and ultimately invalidating it, we decided to defend it.
That is, it’s not Jack’s fault, it’s America’s fault for buying into this whole “so-called War on Terror,” which is behind us now that we’ve managed to forget 9/11. Evidently “left-leaning centrist” means moonbat in the case of Howard Gordon.
